The Biggest Lie In Email Marketing

The biggest lie thrown about by every Tom, Tochukwu and Tosin is that for you to make money through email marketing, you only need to purchase a database of emails whether you know those in the database or not and then start blasting your promotional messages to them.

*grin* *grin* *grin*

Nothing can be farther from the truth than this.

This strategy sometimes work as I have worked with a client (a management consulting firm) that purchased email database from someone who sells them and then blasted their training programs to that email database.

They made some sales though…

But the downside of this is that you waste a lot of money and marketing efforts pushing your goods (products/services) to people you barely know and then “hope” that they buy whatever you are offering them.

One thing that even makes the entire strategy look ridiculous is that most of the emails are promotional messages about their products and not primarily about the person on the email list.

All they are just concerned is just the sale, the money…bla…bla…bla

I get it is about the money.

Isn't it?

Sparky, there is a better way to do email marketing.

And it's the way I am presently utilizing.

And what's this way.

Here's it…

1. Identify your target audience, know the people you are serving.

2. Understand their problems, challenges, demographics, their pains, sweet spot, what wakes them up at night and makes them sleepless, what makes them have the feeling of success.

3. Create a lead magnet that solves one of their most pressing needs. It could be in form of a guide, report, mini course, whitepaper, cheatsheet, template, etc.

4. Set up an opt-in page and connect it to an email autoresponder that will ensure they get the lead magnet after they sign up.

5. Drive traffic using Facebook Ads (or any other means that is appropriate).

6. Follow-up with “infotainment” and well researched emails that naturally lead to the sale of your products and/or services.

Voila, that is how a permission-based email marketing system is setup.
